Sydney Architecture Festival - 6th Oct

"The 2008 Sydney Architecture Festival is focussed on Circular Quay - the Gateway to Sydney. Held on Monday 6 October, World Architecture Day, the Festival will feature architectural tours of the city; activities at the World Heritage listed Sydney Opera House; talks, exhibitions and kids activities at Customs House; tours of Cockatoo Island and much more."

The 'Conversation Corner' informal talks event looks really interesting. There's a new speaker every 15 minutes. This event will be held at Customs House, 1st floor, from 10am - 4pm.

These include:
10:15am Sacha Coles, Aspect Studios & NSW AILA Vice-President - Inspirational Landscape Architectural Projects;
11:15am Ken Maher - Central Station precinct project;
3:30pm Richard Francis-Jones - Circular Quay precinct project;
3.45pm Frank Stanisic - 2008 Aaron Bolot Award for Multiple Housing and more..

'Magazine Monday' is an architecture magazine and book exchange event that will be held in the forecourt of Customs house. This also sounds like a cool event to check out. You can buy titles with a gold coin donation, with the proceeds going to the Architects without Frontiers and Emergency Architects.

Jessica Porter's artwork featured on CG

Jessica Porter's Volcano work

Jessica Porter recently (Nov/Dec 2007) held an exhibition titled 'Forgot to Remember' with Fil Molitor and Kate Beckingham at the Somedays Gallery in Surry Hills, Sydney.

"Jessica’s work is driven by a desire to understand human behavior. She is stirred by the force within us to assume that what we know is right and best. Jessica is preoccupied with finding the truth and meaning underlying things and she weaves this into her work. Through use of symbolism, abstraction, and illusions, her work often hides a secret tale.

She thrives on creating images that ask the viewer to question what they see and prompts them to consider a new perspective. Surrounded by stereotypes and hasty judgments, Jessica is moved to show viewers that what they see may not be what others see. Her work forces the viewer to make up their own mind about they see. Truth is in the eye of the beholder."

Jessica's artwork is striking and bold. Have a look at her work from the 'Forget to Remember' exhibition, illustrations she did for the Total Cardboard journal, and some of her other artwork.
